Your First Stitches: Part 2

Welcome back! If you haven’t checked out Part 1, be sure to do so here so you’re all caught up! Let’s get into it.

You should find yourself having just completed a loop start, and have something that looks somewhat like this:

This is the first half of our full stitch, also known as a ‘half stitch’. For this example, we are going to practice doing 4 stitches in a column and completing more than one stitch in a row.

We are going to do half stitches for the remaining stitches, and then work our way back up to complete them.

So, we are going to do exactly what we just did, moving downward. Come up through the hole below the first hole we came up through, and back down one hole to the right and one down. Complete 4 half stitches.

Voila! Repeat this for the rest of the stitches, You will be coming up through holes you have already threaded, completing each ‘x’ or full stitch as you work toward the top.

Now, unless you’re making a teeny pattern of a stick, you probably won’t be completing a pattern with just 4 stitches in a line! But, this is how you will go about doing stitches of the same colour within sections.

Now that we have 4 half-stitches, we’re going to complete the other half. Come up from the back as if you were going to do a 5th half-stitch, but instead, move one hole up and one to the right, making your first full stitch.

And there we have it! This is how to do more than one stitch at a time of the same colour. See how to tie off your thread when you’re done with the colour in this post.

Happy stitching!
