Tying Off Your Thread

When you reach the end of your thread or need to switch colours, there are a few different ways to tie off your thread. Here we will go over tying a small knot on the back of your cross-stitch.

Move the loop toward your cross-stitch. This loop will become a small knot to secure your thread.

When you’re ready to tie off, turn your cross-stitch over. Create a loop in the loose thread using your needle.

Use your needle to draw the loop down without knotting. Almost like holding your finger on a ribbon when wrapping a present, hold your needle on the aida where your thread comes up from, and pull the thread until the knot meets your needle.

You want the knot to be as close to the aida as possible, but without the thread being pulled super tight. You still want your stitches to look even on the front, so just be sure to get it tight without pulling too tight!

Once you’ve got 2 knots on there you can trim the thread and you’re done!

Once you’ve made one knot, follow the same process and make a second to reinforce the knot.
